As Formulation Development Manager, you will report to the Development Director and oversee the scientific strategy, technical quality, delivery and team performance of Formulation Development, with emphasis on nanoparticle-based delivery systems and complex injectable products. The role requires a scientist and leader with a strong foundation in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science or Analytical Sciences who has developed substantial expertise in Pharmaceutical Formulation Development and can connect composition, structure, process and product performance through robust physicochemical characterization.
You will act as the primary technical authority from feasibility and screening through scale-up, validation readiness and GMP transfer, embedding manufacturability from the outset. The ideal candidate combines the rigor of a chemist, the product understanding of a formulation scientist, strong analytical judgment and the ability to develop reproducible processes at scale.
Key responsabilities:
Lead the formulation development strategy and execution for advanced drug delivery systems, ensuring successful progression from feasibility through scale-up, validation readiness and GMP transfer.
Drive the design, optimization and characterization of complex formulations, including LNPs, PNPs, liposomes and other sterile or injectable products, applying Quality by Design (QbD) principles.
Oversee technology transfer activities and industrialization, ensuring a smooth transition from development to GMP manufacturing and supporting scale-up, validation and post-transfer activities.
Define and guide analytical and physicochemical characterization strategies, integrating product performance, stability and comparability data into development decisions.
Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory requirements, including GMP/GDP standards, technical documentation, risk assessments, change controls, deviations, CAPAs and CMC-related activities.
Lead and develop a high-performing Formulation Development team, fostering scientific excellence, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
Act as the key Formulation Development representative in cross-functional project teams, collaborating with Analytical Development, Production, Quality, Project Management and Business Development.
Support customer-facing activities, including technical discussions, proposals, due diligence processes, project governance and strategic capability development.
What are we looking for?
Master's degree or PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
At least 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or CDMO environments, leading formulation development, scale-up, and technology transfer activities, with experience in people management or technical leadership.
Strong expertise in formulation development of complex products, ideally including advanced drug delivery systems, sterile or injectable formulations, as well as scale-up and GMP transfer activities.
Demonstrated people leadership, coaching and talent development skills, with the ability to build, mentor and lead high-performing scientific teams.
Fluent English, both written and spoken.
